ZapSpot Surpasses ONE Million Distributions

New software distribution technology results in over a million application distributions in less than 80 days.

New York, NY, June 21, 2000 - ZapSpot, Inc., a privately held New York City-based company that makes online/offline computer programs, announced today that it has surpassed the 1 million mark in application distribution.  This number includes over 850,000 downloads that have come from its Web-site, as well as more than 300,000 copies distributed to the company’s membership base.  This milestone was passed less than 80 days after product launch, and represents the popularity of the firm’s 6 applications among its users in over 100 countries.

Also exciting was the high-level of pass along (virality) that its releases have enjoyed, along with play time that far exceeds industry averages.  The company’s rapid growth has come before the launch of a formalized marketing effort, relying heavily upon users sending their ZapSpot applications to friends.  In addition to e-mailing programs, average members use ZapSpot for over 120 minutes per month, which makes ZapSpot “stickier” than 90 percent of the top global web properties.

“ZapSpot has turned a corner over the past few weeks,” says CEO Dan Frumin.  “Our user acquisition has outpaced all forecasts, and we have started to receive recognition for our unique technology and the quality of our content.  I am very excited about surpassing the 1 million milestone in less than two-and-a-half months; that’s an accomplishment that few companies could match.”

The distribution of ZapSpot’s millionth application caps a seminal few months for the young company.  Founded in February 2000 by three Microsoft veterans, the company has penned a broad partnership agreement with PC management and anti-virus firm McAfee (www.mcafee.com), more than doubled its network of users every 30 days since product launch, and was recently named a ‘Hot Site’ by USA Today (www.usatoday.com).

Adds Victor Cho, Executive Vice President – Marketing and Sales: “We are greatly looking forward to the next few weeks and months.  With increased offerings to both our end-users and our advertising partners, we are well on our way to delivering our second million set of applications in even faster time than the first.”
